A MESSAGE FROM OUR FOUNDER

Where is First Leaves green tea made?

What does first harvest mean?

What is Yabukita?

How do you brew our green tea?

What is the difference between Japanese green tea and Chinese green tea?

When I grew up in Japan, my family sipped Sencha green tea throughout the day and savored exceptional teas like the first harvest from Shizuoka province. Japanese tea with its subtle flavors, beneficial vitamins and antioxidants remained essential to our natural health approach. When I left Japan, the tea lingered in my heart across the many miles between countries. My dream is that the ritual of savoring our fragrant tea will transform and uplift your life ? and bring you many joys.

Where is First Leaves green tea made?

Our green tea is made in Fuji City, Shizouka, on Japan’s central Pacific Coast. The blend of fertile rich soil, abundant sunshine, mild seasons, ideal rainfall, and coastal fog create the perfect climate for our premium green tea to flourish.

What does first harvest mean?

The first spring tea harvest (also known as first flush tea) in Japan yields the best quality leaves, richest in vitamins, polyphenols and flavorful amino acids like L-theanine. The L-theanine amino acid is responsible for the umami flavor.

What is Yabukita?

Yabukita is the breed of tea bush native to Shizouka. It is considered the cornerstone flavor of Japanese tea as its taste delivers a well-balanced flavor, elegant aroma, and sweetness along with umami.

How do you brew our green tea?

We recommend heating water to no more than 175º (if you boil it, allow it to cool before brewing). For every cup (6-8 oz), add one tablespoon of loose leaf tea or one sachet bag, then steep for 30-40 seconds.

What is the difference between Japanese green tea and Chinese green tea?

Japanese sencha green tea has a higher level of antioxidants, a grassier taste, and is processed by steaming the leaves versus pan-frying them.
